It’s now Thursday and I have almost completed Mischief #1′s room make-over. The wall is painted, I have re-sprayed the old chest of drawers and bought new knobs. My longing for glamorous hand painted beetle/insect knobs is unanswered due to financial constraints (and the apparent inability of Australia Post to have them delivered from an international destination within 4 days), so I have reverted to Bunnings and plain silver round ones. Better to be safe than sorry, especially where the decorating idiosyncrasies of a 10 year old boy is concerned.

I have customised a pot lid holder from Ikea into a book rack and used those cute little magnetic spice tins as holders for all those god awful, yet so precious, pebbles and shells and bits of bark that seem to make their way into our home after every outing. So here is an updated photo (from my iPhone – sorry about the quality!) I will attempt to have more styled shots for the big reveal (tomorrow afternoon) but as husband is still putting together the 2 x Ikea bookshelves, there’s really not that much more to show at the moment. How cute is that iDog though – he dances and jumps about in time to the music. Very cool.

It’s now 10pm and I must go and be supportive to my masterbuilder and his allen key. xx

Spaces for Boys

My little mischief #2 is off on school camp for A WHOLE WEEK so I thought I would re-do his room in a new and excitingly grown up “I’m- almost-a-teenager-and-I’m-so-cool” kinda way. My brief is this – don’t spend too much money, make it look cool, don’t make it too hard and oh yes…don’t spend too much money.

Thank God Mr Bunnings is located close by and he sells my best friend Mr White Knight Fast Drying Gloss Enamel Spray Paint.

I have 2 litres of Dulux “Anita” low sheen acrylic (here it is) for his bedroom wall and have planned an outing to Ikea tomorrow for the perfect white low bookcase with multiple cubes and hidey holes. His chest of drawers will be repainted (thank you White Knight) and have new knobs attached and I am currently bidding HARD on Ebay for a retro Eames style chair.

This is his room at the moment and by Friday arvo I will be able to post the new and updated version! Hooray!

This doesn’t mean by the way that I have given up my button project; I am still waiting for the rest of the buttons to arrive. (And I have 4 months and 3 days until my deadline.)

Did you know that if you type “drawer knobs” into Etsy you get 754 results. That’s 754 different types of knobs. Here is one I like the best for my boy’s room (Monkeyshines on Etsy) but as it is in the US and I am here in Oz I can’t see it arriving here by Friday. Also they’re $8 USD each (so that’s $64 USD for 8 knobs plus postage….mmmm…methinks I will be trawling the op shops tomorrow). Okay they are all so gorgeous I need to go now to scroll through them all. xx

Buttons and Candy

I have a new project. I got the idea from Button Candy and Lucky Pony who did a button counter board (how cool does it look?) I’d do it on the side of my kitchen bench but I fear Little Mischief #2 would pick all the buttons off and feed them to the two fat rabbits thinking they were lollies.

Button Board

I’m going to do a button board about the same size as the large canvas that currently hangs on the wall opposite the dining table. I think it’s 120cm high x 170cm wide. I’ve sourced the buttons from Ebay and although I have bought about 1000, I don’t think it’s going to be enough. Mmmm…have I miscalculated how long this might take?

Anyhoo, my goal is to have it finished by my birthday in November. So that gives me 4 months and 8 days. Well actually 4 months and 7 days because I haven’t even bought the backing board yet… xx
